What i think most people should do, to improve their over all game
play. simple things such as keyboard configurations can make
your game play alot better. You must remember all this is is
my opinions it is not for sure the best way to do things but its
the best I have found in my entire gaming experience. One of my
first games was DuKe Nukem 3d, i have been playing 3d shooters
ever since. I used to play modem games with my friends probly 5
out of 7 days a week, hence I value myself very good at what I
do. but lo I know I am not the best, and never will be. . .
Controls
Mouse vs. Keyboard.
I use a combonation of both! it has proven to me to be the best setup
over all. I found that with this setup you can circle, aim ahead
of your opponent, and aim up and down the easiest. my mouse is
setup so there is no reversal or anyting, basically it works just
how your pointer is working now; you move the mouse up, the
pointer moves up.
Mouse
left button - fire
middle button - duck
right button - jump
right button twice - open
Keyboard
left - strafe left
right - strafe right
up - run forward and medkit
all else is default
Keep your ears open.
3d Realms has made this one of the most valuable ways to detect
opponents. every single monster has an ambience or warning sound
attributed to them. you cannot always hear them but when you do
you know that they are in the area. in multi everyonce in a while
you will recieve a little listen in on the other player,
such as when they enter ducts or go under water. such
info is very good to have, especially when you hear a faint
laughter you may not realize it but your friend has just finished
loading his nuke ;)
Multi-Player
This is the Shit! this is what i am good at! I will touch all the
points I can think of, but I may miss a few! more to come at a later
date!
Keep Moving
The hardest target to hit is the moving target! if you are strafing
and circling, it makes it 3 times as hard to hit you! and as a
general rule of thumb, you should be moving around the entire map
at all times. you will get more ammo, life, and kills if you do
that.
Aim ahead of your opponent!
when your enemy is moving and you shoot a rocket at him, it doesnt
hit him does it? no! shoot ahead of him so that it explodes as he
gets there; so he runs into it!
Stock Up
Keep trying to get more power-ups and life, unless you have 200
health 100 armor and full weapons you need to keep ammo those in
mind, look for a fight when you are ready, and avoid them if you
are ill-stocked.
