CHAPTER I - the origins
wangcity, my first Shadow Warrior map, is a conversion of my duke episode DukeCity. WangCity is only half of the first level of DukeCity and as you might have noticed, WC isn't finished because while doing the conversion i suddenly thought something like this: "c'est con de faire cette conversion, allez, je vais plutot faire un nouveau level dix fois mieux" which means "it sucks doing this conversion, let's do a new 10x better level !" and this new level i started became PARK.
CHAPTER II - why Park ?
well, the idea of an outside-natural level was in my head since long time and when i saw Jurassic Park on video again, it gave me some cool ideas for a map and i started PARK, soon after the beginning i felt out of ideas (terrible !) and PARK waited nearly 1 month before i came back to map-building, but then, the ideas were back and the "build-spirit" took me all the way to the finish line ! Once PARK was finished (i believed so) i looked for some beta-testers and i found a very good one (too good one ?), let's call him Mr X. So, this nasty Mr X found hundreds of little bugs and it took me a while to correct them, but once i was done i must say i was pretty proud of my work ! and i soon started to receive hundreds (well, 18 the first month) of congratulation mails, some already asking for a PARK 2, but that's another story :) PARK got very good ratings and some even told it was the best SW map. This brings me to the funniest point of this chapter: i made PARK with duke's build and when i released PARK i still hadn't Shadow Warrior ! that's why, if you look well, you'll notice i only used sprites & textures that were available in the shareware episode (i extracted all arts from it and used them with duke's build). But how did i insert the effects ? well, someone (Mr Z) sent me the docs of SW + the sw build just before i released the map and so i was able to add the tags... of course, i now have registred version of Shadow Warrior.
CHAPTER III - Atomic: 10min to live
aaaaarg...... this is a bad story, i had some cool concept ideas but when i started the map i just made one room and stopped.. since then ATOMIC still waits in my build directory... (this map was a bit like HITS, i wanted to make something new, well.... i made nothing)
CHAPTER IV - City Of Zilla Enterprises (COZE)
after PARK i was contacted for a possible commercial add-on which should have been a CD with a bunch of exclusive new maps (not an episode, just maps) so i started to work on a small wangbang map, taking place in a city (i always liked cities, look at DukeCity, and PARK was jungle, so i NEEDED to make a city). Being for potential money and celebrity (haha) i worked hard & fast, it only took me 1 1/2 days to complete COZE but the project was canceled and so i releases it on the web. I was also supposed to build a single player map for this CD, and i started this single player map, "High In The Sky".
CHAPTER V - High In The Sky (HITS)
HITS started very fast with a precise idea: make a plateforme-game-like map. Once the CD project was canceled i worked much slower on HITS, but i managed to finish it in a reasonable time. HITS isn't a fantastic map, and wasn't supposed to be one, but i really wanted to make something new, and i think i reached my goal: HITS must be the only map with a ballon and with floating castles and with such an end-part. What was also new about HITS is that i wrote a precise story BEFORE i started building the map.
CHAPTER VI - PARK 2
Finally, i decided to make PARK 2 ! but as i started thinking about it i thought, why not make a complete episode ? (why not: too long ! you don't have enough time ! think about school !) Anyway, i decided to make this episode, and i'm happy to make it.

CHAPTER VII - Conclusion
"aaaah! at last" shouts Sheri "the conclusion ! i though i would not live long enough to see it..." I must be crazy somewhere, i can't help building maps AND, much crazier, i can't help making EPISODES !! heeeeeelp me ! it always starts the same, i make a map, it turns out to be good, i think, let's do a sequel, and no, i don't make a sequel i make a whole episode ! (it was exactly the same story with DukeCity as it is now with PARK)

The PARK Episode is now completed, so i found time to write this little story (hey sheri, i was already thinking about your 'inside stories' while building :-)
--== PARK 2 ==--
When i decided to make the episode i had nearly done nothing from PARK 2, and soon after i started to build PARK 2 i was a bit discouraged by the ammount of work PARK 2 represented... for the first time i had drawn a simple paper-map and it was very frustrating to see how big the paper-map was and how slow i was building ! It took me a while to really start, but once the starting bay/beach and the jungle part that leads to the camp were done it became cool to build (don't ask me why, i don't know :-) and i really enjoyed making the van, the mines and everything ! i maybe enjoyed it too much, the map became really huge and there's nearly a "parallel story" within PARK 2 (all the old-ruins you can find).
--== PARK 3: the boat ==--
I had the idea of this boat long before PARK 2 was completed but once it was i really did not want to build this boat... i wanted to go on with PARK 5 which i started while making p2. So i just made the outside of the boat (like you see it in PARK 2) and i found someone to build the inside (that is KINGOMEN). When he had nearly completed the level kingomen sent it back to me and the map slipped in the 'park project' folder until all other maps were done. Then, i went back to park3 and added the 'stuff' within the level (keys, most enemies/ammos, and all boxes :) All this polishing was done during last week-end before release, so was a bit stressed but i think the final result is cool.
--== PARK 4: the city ==--
Aaaaaaah ! i needed this one ! a CITY !! When i started the episode i just had a generral idea about this level: it had to be a city with the crashed boat. This level is the last i built (except polishing park 3) and i always delayed it, thinking it would annoy me to build it, when.... one week-end, we went to the mountain... no computer... nothing... BUT i had a block of paper so i drew a paper-map of park 4. I had never made such a detailed paper-map before, this one includes everything you can see in the map... once i went home i started building this 4th level and it was GREAT FUN to build it (i really like building cities...don't know why :-) except for the effects (but that's explained later in this fabulous text).

Well, can't remember interesting points about this one... i think it is the more standard map of the Episode...oh !! yes ! it includes my old "atomic" concept i always wanted to use: (dramatic music please) the TIME LIMIT !! (end of music)

i do not like to add effects in my maps :( each door is a hard work... Park 2 particulary made me hate effects, but i learned a lot; for ex i did not know how to make "tests" in a map (if u kill a girl, level ends and goes to the cell level, if you save a girl she says thanks, if both girls are saved, Lo Wang talks and the end-sector-ship appears) ..but... i don't like inserting effects (except ambience sounds, i LIKE ambience sounds) but anyway, i nearly tried all sw effects now i think, even the warp_copy_sprite effect :) [seen in park4 ending.. is it used somewhere else in the game ??]

maybe you think Park is dark... i might have a explanation: i built it mostly by night. See, everything around me is dark, the only light comes from the screen, so the map seems bright -> i make it darker, but when day comes, everything is bright so the screen/map seems dark to me -> i make it brighter... so, when you come across a too dark part, think i surely made it by night :-) [this is only a supposition...]
